The Correct Take

Sparkling Water

September 16, 2022

Sparkling water, the bubbly beverage that tastes like if you waved a fruit over a cup of water and called it a flavor.

As junior Sidney Pitkins puts it, “Tastes like TV static with a hint of flavor,” and honestly, I can’t completely disagree with that.

However, I don’t think that that classifies sparkling water as bad.  I, Lara Ejzak, am a self-proclaimed lover and addict to sparkling water, specifically the popular name brand of La Croix.  Give me a pamplemousse La Croix on a Sunday night and I’m already having a great time.  When people find this out about me, fifty percent are absolutely appalled and the other fifty percent are backing up my carbonated craving.  The most common gripe that people bring up to me about sparkling water is that “there isn’t enough flavor,” and to that I say, what are you, eight?

While I see the appeal and personally enjoy a sugary soda like Coca-Cola every once in blue moon, I don’t need 30+ grams of sugar to enjoy a beverage.  I understand that when one of the uninitiated takes a sip of a carbonated beverage they expect sugar, but that doesn’t mean that when they taste the truth they should be mad about it.  It’s about time we all mature our taste buds a bit people.  It’s also a great alternative for someone who is trying to stop drinking soda but still wants that carbonated mouth-feel.

Junior Dara Patten put it beautifully when she described it, saying, “It satisfies that urge to have something carbonated.  It’s refreshing but not something super sweet.”

Not to mention you get to feel super bougie when you go to a restaurant and choose ~sparkling~ water as opposed to still or ‘water with lemon’.  If you really want to talk about bland, water with lemon is about the most underwhelming beverage out there.  At least sparkling water is trying and in my opinion, succeeding at making a fun beverage that is refreshing tasty, and guilt-free.

Oh hey! My name is Lara Ejzak, and I am a super (cool) senior here at Knoch. I am involved in tennis, German club, history club, and Youth and Government.  I am still making atrocious puns and baked goods that just don't quit! I write articles about school and whatnot, but my specialty is any article that allows me to spew my opinion everywhere because I am always right.  I'm a sucker for a good mango or raspberry, and I am still out on a hunt to find the best apples, so hit me up if you know of any.
