The iPhone 7 is Here
February 10, 2017
On September 7th the iPhone 7 was introduced to the world and it will change everything. Except the only thing it will really change is the amount of money taken out from our bank accounts so we could actually pay for it. That’s $649 without a contract by the way.
First thing’s first. The headphone port has been killed off. Apple did to the headphone jack what the Cincinnati Zoo did to Harambe. They decided to remove it on the iPhone 7 to make more space for the new stereo speakers and the Taptic Engine(light sense vibrations). Apple claims it was a courageous move but things just don’t add up.
The good news is the tech giant now provides their own new Bluetooth headphones known as Air Pods. They cost $159, but when compared to last year every iPhone purchased came with a free wired pair of headphones in the box. This deters many potential users who may upgrade like senior Brenna Moore, “Considering it doesn’t have a headphone jack, I’m not about to pay $159 for Bluetooth headphones just to lose them.”
If you thought I was done giving you such good news, that’s where you’re wrong. It only gets better.
For those of you who don’t see the need to purchase Bluetooth headphones, there is a solution: the dongle. This is an adapter you plug into the charging port which allows you to connect the headphone jack to the device. Almost a decade of breakthrough designs and iconic branding has led to what Apple calls… the dongle. Now, I wish I were making this up or this were just some long running joke but Apple hasn’t given the punchline or even said, “Kidding!” yet and that’s what scares me.
Moving on to the colors, the iPhone 7 comes in black, silver, gold, rose gold, and a new glossy black. However, since this is the Knight Times and the paper is only printed in black and white you’re seeing the colors as grey, grey, light grey, dark grey, and super dark grey.
This year the iPhone has been announced with water resistance as well as dust resistance. This doesn’t mean you can go diving with your phone just yet. But now you won’t have to worry about covering your brand new iPhone from the rain and may even eliminate the need for a waterproof case. This directly increases competition with Samsung. The South Korean tech company has had water and dust proof smart phones for years now and many choose them over Apple specifically due to this safety feature.
Now that Galaxy phones have lost their leverage it may lead to users switching devices. However, there are without a doubt loyal Samsung customers.
Junior Nash Michalski has a Galaxy S Active which is completely waterproof and features a heart rate sensor on the home button. Michalski definitely won’t be switching any time soon saying, “I like the setup of Android more and Apple is too mainstream.” Although I think we can all agree being too mainstream is a lot better than an exploding Galaxy phone.
People like Moore are displeased with the iPhone to say the least. But many iPhone users are just as loyal. As for whether she would ever switch to an Android smartphone she said, “No, Androids were even worse than iPhones, their camera quality and emojis suck.
Instead of buying this generation of the iPhone more people than you think will be buying next year’s model. Moore plans on buying the iPhone 8. It is rumored that the next iPhone will have a huge redesign, a new display, wireless charging, and a faster processor.
This reiteration of the iPhone to many just seems like a money grab from CEO Tim Cook. In other words, Apple kind of seems like a dongle-head.
