What’s Hot — “IT”

October 18, 2017

Stephan King (well, more like Andy Muschietti, the director of “It”– the book was written in 1986) is back at it again with another horrifying movie that everyone sees just to say they saw it.  “It” is about this clown named Pennywise that preys on children.  The clown, who feasts on their deepest fears, plagues the town of Derry, Maine every 27 years.  I am not wasting money to see the movie simply for this review, so instead you can read interviews of people who did decide to see it.

1. Why did you see the movie “It”?

Nathaniel Webb, junior: I heard a lot of good things about it and my girlfriend loves scary movies so we thought we’d go see it.

Jasmin Randall, sophomore: My mother and I wanted something to do.

Chalee Durand, senior: I saw the movie “It” because I work in a movie theater so I fortunately am allowed to see movies for free. I got to go with some of my coworkers and see the film. We had a little party before the movie so it was great to hang out and get together. I also really enjoy seeing scary movies with my family and friends. There was also a lot of hype about the movie, being it was a remake of an older film, so I wanted to see what the hype was all about.

Blaze Voltz, freshman: The trailer looked really good so I went to watch it with my friends.

Lauren Cihonski, sophomore: Because the trailer looked so good and I love scary movies!

2. Thoughts on the movie?

Nathaniel: I heard a lot of good things about it and my girlfriend loves scary movies so we thought we’d go see it.

Jasmin: Awesome!  I can’t wait for the next one.

Chalee: I really enjoyed the movie! It wasn’t your typical horror film. It had a little bit of everything genre wise, horror, comedy, romance, etc. There definitely were parts of it that made me jump but it had a great storyline and it made you think the whole way through.

Blaze: I thought it was going to be a lot scarier that what it was.  It was also funny.

Lauren: The movie was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen in my life.

3. Did you like it? Did you hate it? Why?

Nathaniel: I loved the movie. It made me want to go back and watch the original.

Jasmin: I loved it because I love horror movies and it was mostly funny.

Chalee: I liked it a lot. I love horror films, especially the ones that make you think. If you are mindlessly just watching something then it doesn’t give the full effect of being able to learn and comprehend new material.

Blaze: I liked it.

Lauren: I liked the movie.  I liked it because the effects were amazing and just the story behind the movie was interesting to me.

4. Was it what you expected? How was it/was it not?

Nathaniel: Yes, it was definitely as scary as they said it would be.

Jasmin: Yes because of the jump scares.

Chalee: It honestly wasn’t what I expected. I really didn’t know what to expect, being a remake of an older movie and all but I really liked how they portrayed the whole movie. I thought it was going to be scarier but I liked how it added different genres because it made the movie as a whole more interesting.

Blaze: I expected it to be a lot scarier but it was still good.

Lauren: No. I never saw the first one so I knew nothing about it, only the trailer.

5. How many stars (0-5) would you rate this movie?

Nathaniel: For sure a 5 star movie. 10/10 would recommend.

Jasmin: I would rate the movie 5 stars.

Chalee: I would rate the movie a 5!

Blaze: 5/5 stars.

Lauren: 5 for sure.

6. Anything else you would like to add?

Nathaniel: Let’s make putting red balloons everywhere a new thing.

Chalee: I definitely would recommend “It” to many people. If you enjoy movies that are horror filled, and also a mind game then you will love this movie!

Lauren: I thought it was really cool how the children actors never saw the clown without makeup. Their reactions in the movie were their actual first reaction to seeing the clown.

So, it didn’t seem as though the movie “It” was as scary as many said it would be.  It honestly depends on what your idea of “scary” is–which means you’ll have to see the movie for yourself!  If you are looking for a funny story-line with a scary theme, “It” is perfect for you.

According to your peers, “It” is a 5-star movie.  Horror movies aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this one seems to have fantastic reviews.  5 stars!
