5 Things To Do For A Not Bummer Summer

June 5, 2019

Myself enjoying the beautiful view at Cook Forest while on a hike last summer.

  1. Summer Carnivals, Festivals, etc.

We have a lot of local festivals nearby in the summer. These are some of my recommendations:

  •  Big Butler Fair – June 28 – July 6

  • Saxonburg Carnival – July 16-20

  1. Go camping

Camping is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. I’ve gone every summer my entire life. Some of my favorite places to camp include:

  • Cook Forest State Park

  • Pymatuning State Park

  • Prince Gallitzin State Park

Hiking is a great way to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather in the summer. Some of my favorite places to hike are:

  • McConnell’s Mills

  • Ohiopyle

  1. Go on a road trip

Pack up your stuff and head on a spontaneous road trip with some friends. You can stay somewhere locally or farther away. I would recommend:

  • the Finger Lakes – Binghamton, NY

  • Niagara Falls

  • Allegheny National Forest

  1. Go to a concert

There are tons of great concerts in all different genres coming to Pittsburgh this summer ( see Paige’s previous article for a more detailed list). Some personal suggestions are:

  • Luke Bryan, June 7
  • Queen and Adam Lambert, July 31
  • Florida Georgia Line, August 2
  • Brantley Gilbert, August 31
