Lace up for Pediatric Cancer

February 3, 2017

This year, in the United States alone, 15,000 kids will be diagnosed with cancer, and 40,000 families will continue the fight. 50% of those families will be forced to seek bankruptcy.

Go4theGoal was founded in 2006, after Richard Stefanacci was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Richard fought a hard battle for a year before he passed away a few months before his 15th birthday.

This non-profit organization never lost sight of their goal. As Richard’s cousin Blake was diagnosed with another rare cancer, Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, in March of 2011, their determination strengthened. Blake is now a 4-year survivor.

This group was founded to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, funding research, and guiding children to the best hospitals to get the medical attention that they need.

This year, the Knoch girls soccer team is joining the fight against cancer. Coach Kevin Wood brought this to our teams attention back in August.

“I think it would be great to do some community outreach projects with the team, and this is something I really care about,” said Wood.

On Monday, September 19th, Knoch took on their big rival, Mars, at the Knoch football stadium. At halftime, there was a penalty kick shootout to raise money for Go4theGold. The winner of the shootout received a pair of Knoch Knight socks.

Although Mars defeated us 3-0, it was a game to remember simply because we raised a lot of money for a great cause.

“It’s good to open up everyones eyes, we don’t realize how privileged we are to be able to play the game we love every day,” said senior Allie Gore.

Donations will be accepted over the next few weeks, and we really hope you consider helping the families in need.

Hello!

My name is Taylor Lambert. I am 17 years old, and I'm a senior. If I'm not a school or work i'm either with my boyfriend, or in my bed watching netflix. Next year, I am attending IUP as a pre-veterinary major because I like animals a lot more than I like people. Except for Kevin Krause, he's my bestie. :)
