Athlete of the Week

September 17, 2020

Name: Jaydon Crawford
Grade: 11

What sport(s) do you play?
I run cross country and track.
Position: Girl’s cross country captain
How long have you been playing this sport?
I have been running since 8th grade so about four years!
What inspired you to play this sport?
My dad had an injury in his back when I was in middle school. His physical therapist recommended running 5Ks to keep his back strong. I ended up being his running partner at all of the races. I definitely wouldn’t be running if I hadn’t run all of those 5Ks and grew that love of running.
What’s your favorite thing about playing this sport?
My absolute favorite thing about this sport is all of my teammates. They are all so funny and bring so much joy to practice everyday, including the dreaded track workouts.
What are your expectations for this season?
The girls are on fire this year. I expect to win the section for the second time ever! Maybe even seeing us place in the top 3 at WPIALS (fingers crossed if we have it). On the boys side, there are so many boys that definitely have a possibility of making it all the way to states. We all just have to continue to have the drive to do it.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Don’t ask why we run for fun. None of us know how to answer that question.
