Two Of A Kind- Patrick and Shane

For my fourth group of best friends, I decided to mix it up a lil and interview people that aren’t sophomore girls- Shane Napierkowski and Patrick Huffman. They’re both senior boys who, even though they haven’t been best friends for the longest time, you’ll always see them together.

Name: Patrick Huffman

Grade: 12th

How long have you been best friends?

4 years

What initiated your friendship?

We became close after both failing the Algebra Keystones and taking Fundamentals of Algebra.

What are your favorite memories together?

Every time Lil Dicky comes on Spotify when we’re driving and it nearly breaks my bass.

Have you ever been in a fight over something silly before? If so, what was it?

Shane’s gotten into drama plenty of times and I’ve constantly had to tell him how to get out.

What’s the most embarrassing story you can tell me about you best friend?

We argued for 2 hours at Hidden Valley trying to figure out where the Bunny Hill was so Shane could first Ski. I tried to tell him to just go on a regular slope and that he’d be fine, but he didn’t listen to me.

What are your friendship plans for the future, ie when you go to college?

Hopefully keep in touch, or convince him to come with me to Point Park.

Do you have any throwback pictures of you and your best friend you’d like to share?

I got nothin’.

Name: Shane Napierkowski

Grade:  Senior

How long have you been best friends?

5 years.

What initiated your friendship?

neither of us really initiated the friendship, we just both started to talk to each other, we met on the DC trip in 8th grade, then had our first real class together as freshman.

What are your favorite memories together?

Going to Vermont for the weekend, skiing, Watching Godzilla in the theater(we hyped that movie up so much!) Going to random places to catch Pokemon on Pokemon Go, really its just the small things. It doesn’t have to be going on vacation or to an amusement park or anything like that. The best moments are from just driving around, playing loud obnoxious music, singing and having fun going to random places whether its a restaurant, movie, or event. For example we went to the gas station and I played “Shots” by Lmfao in his car very loudly and he got so into it that he started flailing around and screaming, and right outside a lady pumping gas was watching him with a very concerned look. Who knows what that lady was thinking, probably that he needed medical attention immediately for a possible stroke! It’s moments like that!

Have you ever been in a fight over something silly before? If so, what was it?

This is a good one. We went to a skiing resort together, I don’t know which one, but for skiing resorts they have a difficulty scale. Double black diamond is the hardest, and green is the easiest. The “bunny hill” is easier than any green. Its meant for toddlers and beginners. It just so happened to be that i was a beginner. We checked out the map, and we decided on a game-plan. We talked about it. Seems normal right? Nope. We took 2 hours deciding what slope to go on. I wanted to go to the bunny hill, to warm up, and so he agreed to that. Except It took me 2 hours to realize the slope right in front of us was the bunny hill, and not a freestyle park. I saw jumps on the slope so I just figured “thats definitely not the bunny hill, lets find the bunny hill” but in all reality, that was the bunny hill. So we spent 2 hours of our time at the resort arguing over the fact that the bunny hill was literally right in front my face, but I wouldn’t accept defeat. I knew deep in my heart that that slope was definitely not the bunny hill. I value my life, I did not want to go on a freestyle trail and potentially die. I wanted to warm up on the bunny hill before dying. Looking back at this, I don’t know how he stayed with me for 2 hours and managed to argue about it for 2 hours. It was basically a kid crying for ice cream then not eating the ice cream when he finally gets it. After he finally convinced me it was the bunny hill, by going down the potential death slope going about 5 mph(that’s about as fast as you’d go on the bunny hill) I Finally realized he was right. I like to think how he’ll never get those 2 hours of his life back, but at the same time I wasted 2 hours of my own slope time on that too. So its not as fun to think about anymore.

What’s the most embarrassing story you can tell me about you best friend?

I saw him do a split at Holiday Valley. Didn’t think he could fall in such a position!

What are your friendship plans for the future, ie when you go to college?

He’s going to a college in Pittsburgh, Point Park, and I plan on going to a more local school, SRU. I think we’ll keep in touch, we can go weeks without talking and pick things back up where we left them.

Do you have any throwback pictures of you and your best friend you’d like to share?
