8 Things to do During Your Spring Break

February 20, 2017

“The best thing I do over Spring Break is getting out of my bed to get food.” -Sophomore Kaylee Bowser

Have you been wondering what you’re going to do with your life once Spring Break begins? Even if you answered no, you should still read this article because I worked hard on it. Here I give you some ideas of what to do in your time off, with a whole lot of my opinion mixed in. Enjoy this and even if you don’t, please give me validation.

  1. Stay Home (be a loner)

You have all you need at home. You have food, warmth, and shelter. What else could you want? You could binge watch shows on Netflix and get through a single season in just one day (I already do this all the time)! You can hang out with your family. And if you don’t want to be seen by your family, then stay in your room under a big pile of blankets. If you end up feeling too lonely, then hang out with your pet (let’s be real, you need their love).

Shows to watch on Netflix: The Office, Friends, Grey’s Anatomy, Stranger Things, and one of the best shows, Chill with Bob Ross

  1. Hang Out with Friends (be social)

Friends are fun. Be a social butterfly or don’t; I mean it’s your life you can do what you want. But hanging out with friends is usually fun. You can be yourself and just have a good time. Do something like talk and get to know each other so that you’re a good friend because people deserve good friends who care for them.

Things to do with friends: Play a game, go on a walk or run (depending on how ambitious you are), watch a movie, or talk about how cringey you were in middle school

  1. Go to Pittsburgh

We live like an hour away, so it’s not that far of a drive. There’s plenty to do. You can go somewhere to eat, go to a theatre, visit a museum and post pictures of it like everyone else, eat some more, and you can just walk around the city and enjoy yourself. You can go alone if people annoy you or you can go with family/friends if you enjoy company.

Places in Pittsburgh you can visit: Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Museum of Art, Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Science Center, Randyland, or somewhere in the Strip District

  1. Visit a Bigger City

This one really just depends on how much money you’re willing to spend (even though it’s most likely actually your parent’s money). You could drive to a big city or you could take a plane if it’s far away. Personally, I’m too cheap to have my parents buy me a plane ticket (I wouldn’t pay for it because I’m broke).

Cities you could visit: New York City, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, or Miami

  1. Go to the Beach

This is always a popular vacation idea. There’s always pictures on Instagram of people at the beach (follow me @camryn_lilley). You could be one of those people. If you do this, make sure you get a tan and not sunburn because that really hurts especially when all your friends decide to smack you as hard as they can wherever it hurts.

  1. Road Trip

You can get a group of friends together and badly sing throwback songs in a car while you drive to wherever you want and see different attractions. This one requires at least one of your friends to be able to legally drive a bunch of you. If that’s not possible, then you can get one of your cool parents to drive you around.

Places to visit while on a road trip: 7 Springs, Splash Lagoon, Kalahari, and Niagara Falls

  1. Bucket List (Why is it called a bucket list? Like did you write the list on a bucket?)

I don’t have a bucket list, but maybe you do, so try and accomplish something on it. Don’t be like me. You should actually go and do something with your life. Maybe you have a fun life and you already did the things on your bucket list and if that is you, then thumbs up. But for the others who do nothing, get up and do something like skydiving.

Bucket List item ideas: Make some art, scuba diving, jump the bungee, or get a tattoo if you’re legal

  1. Go Camping

There are forests and woods around us. Get a tent and set up camp. Make a fire and make s’mores with your friends and/or family. I’ve only been camping once or twice, so I don’t really know what else there is to do. The point is to have fun so enjoy yourself and your time away from the stress that is school.

The point of Spring Break is to have fun. Just remember that no matter what you do at least you’re doing something. Even if you choose to stay home and just chill, at least you don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get ready to go to school. So enjoy your break fam.
