On November 5, 2021, 50,000 people waited for Travis Scott to hit the stage for his performance during his festival. As more people began to push forward to be close to their favorite artist, fans began to get crushed between the bodies. Many realized this would not be good and tried to escape and got security to pull them out from the crowd.
Unfortunately, eight people did not make it back home after the concert, the youngest being only 14 years old and the oldest being 27. Among those deaths, dozens were hospitalized after the concert as well. As of November 14th, the death toll rose to 10, with a 9-year-old boy being the most recent to pass after being on life support after the concert.
There was a video that surfaced of a girl and a boy yelling to a videographer trying to get someone to help the people passing out and dying in the crowd, but they were ignored and told to get off the stage.
Travis Scott did stop the show a couple times in an attempt to help those who needed medical attention, however, when there was an ambulance in the crowd of people, he kept his show going.
Travis Scott has posted an apology video where you can see him rubbing his head with a black and white filter over top. It was not a very good or sincere apology in my opinion, and others agree.
Since the concert, a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of 280 Astroworld concertgoers. An article from CNN said, “Many in the crowd were knocked to the ground and trampled, some were trapped and crushed against other concert attendees, while others were compressed against metal barricades,” the lawsuit says. “The resulting catastrophic incident and carnage were easily foreseeable and preventable had the Defendants acted in a reasonably prudent manner in planning a large-scale festival like Astroworld Fest.”
Now that concerts are returning back to normal life, please be attentive and alert at your next one you attend, and remember to stay safe. Rest in peace to the ten people who passed.
