Trip of the Week #1

October 17, 2017

Name: Ary Napora

Grade: 10

What is your favorite trip you’ve ever taken?

This past summer my family chartered a sailboat and we sailed through the British and US Virgin Islands.

Why do you like it there?

Well, we visited St. John’s when I was 2 and then again when I was 4 but I only remember those trips from pictures.  This trip I was able to enjoy the hot weather, the delicious foods, and the breathtaking views.

When is your favorite time of year to go there?

I’ve only ever been there in the summer months but the sun is always shining and the people are very friendly so there is no bad time to go, unless of course, it is hurricane season, which one would want to avoid at all cost–these islands were hit pretty hard by the recent hurricanes, so it is best to plan your trip strategically.

What is your favorite thing about this place?

I loved how peaceful it was being out on the water secluded from the outside world for a week.  The food was exquisite, made from scratch at every meal with fresh homemade bread with dinner every night plus desserts that were to die for.  But the part that tops all else was the captain’s dog, Zoe.  She was this 7 pound little lap dog that I still miss today, even more than the food and the scenery.

Who did you go there with?

I went with my family to celebrate my 16th birthday, my brother’s 18th birthday, and my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary.

What is your favorite thing to do there?

We were able to scuba dive, paddle board, and snorkel at any of the islands when we anchored.  I loved being able to spend quality time with my family without any distractions from everyday life.  We over indulged in food the entire trip and never once ate the same thing twice.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Our captain was also a gourmet chef so he prepared 3 meals a day for us that were unbelievable.  His wife, or “first mate,” was a certified dive instructor so we didn’t have to meet up with a dive boat to go scuba diving, we were able to jump right off the back of our boat.
