Broken Arms and Creepy Moving Animals: Traditions you’ll never forget!
December 13, 2017
Not sure if this is fact or fiction, but I like to think that the most common times traditions start during November and December. It makes sense to believe that this is true because of all the awkward family gatherings. Friends and families get together to make some of the greatest or worst memories they’ll ever have.
Although we may be forced into these traditions by our parents or friends, we may end up really enjoying the time we spend with them.
Senior Josh Goodlin loves going to get a Christmas tree at Guppy’s Tree Farm, but it wasn’t always that way.
“ We used to go because my mom forced us, but now we all look forward to it every year,” said Goodlin, “It’s probably one of my favorite days of the year.”
Unfortunately these get togethers might not always go as planned, but they definitely create memories.
Junior Chase Mullen recalls one of the times his annual turkey bowl (family flag football) did not go as planned.
“It might not have been the best memory, but I broke the two main bones in my arm trying to grab the flag off of another player,” said Mullen. “I had to wear a cast that went up to my shoulder!”
Luckily this didn’t stop Mullen from wanting to carry out this tradition each year.
“It’s the best time to play some family football with great people and have lots of fun,” said Mullen.
The Goodlin and Mullen’s families love to get outside and hunt for christmas trees or play some family football. My family is a little different though.
“Every year before Christmas break we find a day to go to Kraynaks and of course Daffin’s chocolate store,” said my sister and freshman Jenna Vasas.
Kraynaks always sets up a long hall of fully decorated Christmas trees with other little creepy moving animals, but other than that it’s really fun.
Not only is it a great place to just look around, it’s also a toy store, so it is the perfect place to grab some last minute gifts.
Vasas said, “Honestly, I don’t do much of the Christmas shopping, but you can bet that my mom and grammy will be picking up lots of presents!”
Now that Christmas is around the corner, it’s time to hang your oversized socks over the fire and start perfecting the cookie recipe for Santa. I mean you don’t want to be the only kid in school who gets coal because your cookies are awful.
