Small Town Big Smiles #3

Senior Katie Fordenbacher

January 9, 2018

“To stay happy we must stop complaining about the troubles we have, and learn to be thankful for the troubles we don’t have.”

Although I haven’t had the chance to get to know Katie very well, I sure do know how positive she is. From what I’ve heard, she’s so positive and absolutely hilarious! I’ve never heard one bad thing about Katie! She’s very kind to everyone. So, if you have a chance, get to know Katie, you won’t regret it!

  1. What’s your reason to smile? There are so many reasons I can think of, but if I had to sum it up, it would just be because life is good. And that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have it’s ups and downs, but it’s when you learn to find the beauty in those moments that you can really just appreciate life for what it is.
  2. What was the reasoning behind the last time you smiled?  My last smile was because of the great friends I have. Through everything, they always know how to make me smile, no matter how simple it may be. I pretty much find a lot funny, whether it be me laughing at myself in an awkward situation, or my friend simply winking at me across the room, you’ll for sure get a smile and a laugh outta me. Life’s boring without that.
  3. What’s your reason for happiness in life?  For me personally, you sometimes have to make the choice to be happy. I think in order to understand that, you have to be familiar with not being happy. Out of times of pain, you learn that happiness is sometimes not an easy choice in those moments. But a lot of things give me a reason to be happy. My grandma is the light of my life and it’s literally impossible for me to be around her and NOT smile. She’s one of the billions of reasons, but she’s a big one for me.
  4. What do you have to tell others who struggle to be happy? Any tips on staying positive?  If you’re struggling to be happy, I would say that I want you to sit down with your thoughts and just be. Think about what it is that DOES make you happy. For once, look at yourself, because that’s OKAY. Just love yourself for a little; get to know your own heart and pursue the things that make you happy right now in that moment. And furthermore, like I said, happiness is a choice. I would say to just look around you… look at all the beauty you can find, because it’s there. No matter how simple, no matter how little it may seem… happiness is always there. You just have to learn to embrace it. Also, I truly believe that happiness is contagious. So, look at who you’re surrounding yourself with because that can really impact you! Get yourself a crazy class clown as your friend; you’ll start laughing in no time.
    5. I have some funny tips for you too!

As embarrassing as some might see it, dancing in the morning to some tunes to start your day? Honestly,  JUST DO IT. Just laugh at yourself. I’ve had days (many) where I wake up and I don’t want to get up. But I turn on my tunes, all the sudden I’m dancing, and then I’m laughing at myself whereas a few minutes before I didn’t even wanna get up!
