So you think I can Bake?

Moon Pie

February 3, 2023

BLAST OFF with me for this OUT OF THIS WORLD baking adventure.  Today, I made Moon Pies,; and no, I’m not talking about pies that have bare butts on them.

On the recent field trip I went on to the Moonshot museum (it was super cool I bet you wish you were there, but guess what, you weren’t, someone dial nine-wah-wah, get the WAHmbulence here ASAP), and I bought a very overpriced Moon pie.  I, along with my 7 other field trip friends, was eating it and it was good, but it certainly left much to be desired.  The cookie was pretty dry and the chocolate was a kind of waxy undesirable consistency.  After completing by lunar missions, I set myself a new mission: make a moon pie that would be worth going to the moon and getting decompression sickness for.

I intended to make the cookies a bit smaller than the normal Moon Pie so that I’d have more to share with people, but I actually think I made them bigger??  I don’t know how that happened, but I’m not one to complain about a big cookie.  Despite the ASTRONOMICAL size, the cookies were very buttery and delicious.  I think I could’ve added a bit more marshmallow fluff in the center, but honestly, it was the most infuriating substance to work with and I was NOT about to deal with it for one more minute.  I also had to deal with CHOCOLATE, which may not seem like a big deal, but oh boy.  I don’t even want to get into it right now, I’m having a pretty good day and don’t want to mess it up.

I’m going to the symphony tonight hopefully!  My squad will be going to City Works before hand, not sure what I’m going to get.  I think last time I got some cheese curds.  I L O V E cheese curds.  There’s something about them that is just so much better than a mozzarella stick, lemme tell ya.  I’m a person that looks at the menu extensively before I go to a restaurant, how about you?  IDK, it just gets me excited for the eating experience that I will be having, brightens my day, you feel me?

Anyways.

Overall, I’d say this little recreation experiment was a success.  Even Erin Coch, a Moon Pie enthusiast, thought they were “fabulous” and “put those four dollar Moon Pies to shame”.  The pies were scrumptious, not to mention you could feed a family of twelve with just one with how substantial they were!

*I didn’t have any CANE SYRUP (because why would I, plus Ava Santora let me down in life yet again by refusing to get me any at Giant Eagle) so instead I just used a substitution of two parts corn syrup and one part molasses.

*Don’t talk to me about the banana ones.

Oh hey! My name is Lara Ejzak, and I am a super (cool) senior here at Knoch. I am involved in tennis, German club, history club, and Youth and Government.  I am still making atrocious puns and baked goods that just don't quit! I write articles about school and whatnot, but my specialty is any article that allows me to spew my opinion everywhere because I am always right.  I'm a sucker for a good mango or raspberry, and I am still out on a hunt to find the best apples, so hit me up if you know of any.
