Positive feedback regarding recent Friday night student sections is common amongst the students of Knoch, with leaders dedicated to creating a special experience for all participants.
At the start of the school year, it’s no secret that Friday night football games are a hot topic. Whether you’re a freshman who’s new to high school or a senior who’s soon to graduate, these games are arguably one of the biggest chapters of our high school stories. A lot of us would also probably agree that a huge part of what makes them so special is the student section.
No matter what year of high school you’re in, chances are you’ve probably had some sort of experience with a student section. Some may not care as much, while others tend to take this matter very seriously. After all, student sections do contribute heavily to a game’s atmosphere. So far, the football team is off to a strong start, and with that, the student section’s energy has also been on an ascent.
“Last year’s was more chaotic,” said senior Spencer Riemer. “This year it’s organized.” Riemer also stated that because of last year’s student section repute, “People are trying to get a better reputation for our student section this year.”
Junior Troy Slater, who has been in attendance at many school sporting events, also voiced his thoughts on the topic saying, “The chants are better this year; they’re more original. Last year they overused the same ones.”
While some have mentioned that last year’s was easily beatable, others seemed to enjoy their previous participation. Yet, this year’s is still coming out on top.
“I liked last year’s student section. It’s going to be hard to top it but so far I think we have a good chance to do so,” said sophomore Aymin Ice. “This year’s seems more exciting and energetic,” which appears to be a common theme in responses thus far.
Freshman Connor Brink agreed with Ice and said, “The energy was amazing. The leaders did a good job keeping the positivity up.”
After the opening game on September 1st, he admitted that his first time being in the student section lived up to his expectations because there was plenty of energy and noise.
Senior Ava Santora, a prominent leader in this year’s crowd, expressed that the main goal for the year is to make it as memorable as possible for the underclassmen.
“We want to show them how fun a student section can be no matter the score of the game or how our team is playing,” Santora stated.
According to the positive feedback circulating around, this goal seems to be an achievement in the making. So if you’re one who enjoys a good time in the student section, it looks like you’re in luck this year.
