Homecoming tends to be one of the most entertaining and unforgettable times of the year for a high school student. And here at Knoch, it’s especially easy to get excited when this time of year rolls around. With so much going on, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Some favor attending the different related events, such as the pep rally, parade, football game, bonfire, dinner/pictures, or the dance itself. Others simply enjoy the different bonus opportunities that come along with it, like Spirit Week, finding a date, choosing what to wear, or getting ready. No matter which part is your favorite, most would probably agree that it’s a busy but enjoyable experience.
After the parade on Thursday night, the annual bonfire had a successful turnout. This was senior Cece Kosecki’s favorite part of the week.
“Everyone is together,” she said. “Plus, I always love watching the freshmen on the football team sing.”
If you’re one who took part in last year’s [2022] homecoming dance, you may have some recollections of the event being labeled with words such as “terrible”, “disappointing”, and some other ones that probably shouldn’t be repeated. Because of that, this year’s dance held a heavy weight on its shoulders, considering it was expected to meet some high standards.
Well, based on the word floating around the halls of Knoch, it seems that the 2023 homecoming might have met students’ expectations. In terms of the dance itself, Kosecki was once again satisfied.
“It was way better than last year,” was her immediate response. “I loved dancing with friends and seeing Caitlyn win Queen.”
On a similar note, junior Wyatt Foster agreed and said, “It was so much more fun this year.”
He claimed that one word to describe his experience is, “sweaty”. This can probably be assumed to mean that he had a good time, considering that the only thing he said would’ve bettered his experience would be more air conditioning.
“The music, mood, and people were a lot of fun,” Foster said. The highlight of his homecoming was, “when the guys would make a circle to dance in, kind of like a mosh pit.”
Similarly, freshman Liam Smith also favored his Saturday night experience.
“The dance was really fun,” said Smith, whose first homecoming exceeded his expectations. “I enjoyed jumping around and having fun with friends.”
Sophomores Ava Hamm and Grace Mayhugh were also in agreement that the dance went well.
“We loved the theme,” said Hamm. Purple decor and lanterns were the motif for this year, fitting the Tangled theme perfectly.
“And the Taylor Swift music was amazing,” added Mayhugh. The DJ was a huge contributing factor in the high energy of the dance.
Overall, students were pleased; homecoming looks to have been a hit this year. It was an exciting first for the freshmen and a memorable last for the seniors. Special shout-out to Ms. Hulings for putting it all together, even through her incredibly busy schedule (read more about Ms. Hulings’ crazy life here! → Exposing the Spartan Among the Knights by Dara Patten). And another big thanks to Student Council for making this homecoming happen… maybe just turn up the AC a little more next year for Wyatt Foster.
