We all know there is a huge controversy on when you should decorate for Christmas. We are going to dive in to see when people put up their Christmas tree and how they feel about it.
Starting off with me…
My family puts up their Christmas tree a day or two after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so I believe it should be celebrated before the Christmas spirit starts to come out. This is my personal opinion though, and I don’t really care if people start to decorate before.
On the other hand, English teacher Mr. Thompson, puts up his Christmas tree before Thanksgiving.
“My wife and I put up our tree usually a little before Thanksgiving, when we find the time,” said Mr. Thompson. “I think it is normal to be surrounded by Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving.”
It is becoming more common to decorate for Christmas early. Mr. Thompson informed me that Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October.
“If they can put up their decorations right after Halloween, why can’t we?” said Mr Thompson.
English Teacher Mrs. Sandorf likes to put up her Christmas tree with her family every year the weekend after Thanksgiving. Sandorf’s family has some special ornaments that they enjoy hanging every time it’s ready to decorate.
“Our tree ornaments are all ones that my husband and I have collected since we were children and ones our own kids have made,” said Mrs. Sandorf.
It’s unusual for Sandorf to see Christmas decorations at Thanksgiving events. If other families decorate before though, she doesn’t mind.
“I have never had Christmas decorations up at any Thanksgiving I have attended,” said Mrs. Sandorf.
Senior Brandon McCardle has had his tree up for awhile now, but he thinks it’s normal to do it in December.
“People should put up their tree in December because its natural,’’ said McCardle. “I think it depends if you should be surrounded by Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving.”
McCardle thinks people who decorate for Christmas early might make someone mad.
“People who decorate early would just make people mad; but they want to get into the holiday spirit,” said McCardle.Freshman Emily Huggins and her family puts up their Christmas tree rather late compared to everyone else.
“My family puts up our Christmas tree two weeks before Christmas, because my dad never has time,” said Huggins.
Huggins doesn’t believe that people should put up their Christmas tree before Thanksgiving. She doesn’t think it’s normal at all.
“If you decorate before Thanksgiving, you’re skipping a holiday,” said Huggins. “There is Thanksgiving you know!”
It’s obvious that there is never going to be an agreed time on when people should put up their Christmas decorations. Just do whatever makes you happy and have great holiday!
