I went to Germany four months ago on a foreign exchange program with my school through a program called GAPP. This experience opened my eyes and made me realize how much I love to travel and experience different places. I knew I liked to travel with my family, but this was my first opportunity to experience something on my own.
I brought up the fact that I COULD go to Germany to my parents one night and that was that. And to be honest, it never sunk in to me. I kinda just packed, got on a plane, and flew away.
One of my goals in life would be to go to every continent in the world. So far, I’ve only been to two. Not too strong of a start for the first 18 years of my life. I guess I have to get a move on it. Some of the places that I would like to visit in the coming years are Italy, Greece, Iceland, and England, to name a few.
Here is some travel advice from someone who wants to go to these selected countries but has never been there before. Don’t take anything I say seriously or to heart.
Iceland
Can you sleep with the lights on all night? Good, because in June, Iceland has straight sunlight for 24 hours! (I feel like that would be fun only for the first three days.) If you aren’t aware before you travel here, you might want to know the summers aren’t lovely hot days. They average at temperatures around 50 F, which isn’t your walk in the park type of weather. If you don’t mind a little hypothermia while sitting at the pool, Iceland would possibly be a good destination to visit for you. Don’t forget your snow boots if you are going to Iceland anytime that isn’t during July or August because there is almost constant snowfall. Enjoy your little winter wonderland!
Italy
This seems like such a calm place with a steady breeze with temperatures at 68 F to 77 F. I feel like everyone just relaxes, eats pasta, sleeps, and drives little motorcycles through the tiny side streets. Like imagine living on a continent shaped like a boot. What isn’t funny about that? There’s also definitely some constant classic jazz music like Kenny G playing in the background as you walk through the main town which would be so peaceful. You might be lucky and also run into Ratatouille! You never know!
England
The OG America! I feel like this is my homeland even though I am only 4.25% English. This is a place you must go because you don’t have to learn a new language! The only downside to England is the rainy, sad weather. It is quite chilly with a solid temperature at 48 to 64 F. The thing that I look forward to the most is riding on the double decker red bus. They just feel so preppy and seem like such a good time. Another thing would be Big Ben because I want to see WHAT IS SO COOL ABOUT IT??? Is it just a tower with a big clock? I guess I will find out someday.
Greece
Have you seen this country? The architecture is actually insanely beautiful and there’s so much coastline. The white buildings low key remind me of houses that little ants would live in. Don’t ask why. There are also just crazy views that would totally increase your serotonin in minutes of being there. I would love to go because I would feel like I’m at a little fiesta. It is hot at an average of 77-95 F; so make sure you bring some sunscreen! My mom really wants to go also.
I hope you enjoyed this little discussion of places that I would like to travel to and I hope that it has inspired you to travel as well!
