It is Halloween season, which calls for getting spooked and then drinking apple cider close to a warm and cozy fire. All of which can be done at The Beacon.
“I definitely recommend other people go,” said senior Tyler Smith. “It’s lots of fun and you can make some good memories with your friends.”
The Beacon is a restaurant all year ‘round, and a reportedly good one, but in October things start to get a little spooky and the haunted house and corn maze are set to begin.
“I always recommend their wings and my family will often order them for a quick meal,” said former employee, junior Molly Manzer.
They also offer “No-Scare” Sundays for younger children, where they will not have scare actors, but they do have a petting zoo and a pony ride.
Upon entering the Beacon during this fall, you have to pay $25 to be able to partake in the haunted house and corn maze, and it’s cash only which was a little annoying, but there is an available ATM inside the restaurant.
After purchasing your ticket, you can either stay nearby for the haunted house or get on a tractor to go to the maze across the street.
Sophomore Allie Jones said, “I had so much fun and my favorite part was going through the corn maze with my friends and laughing.”
The haunted house itself is right beside the restaurant, with a queue that depicts a Halloweeny town, where Manzer used to be employed.
“I worked in the haunted house,” Manzer said, “I often dressed as a clown child.”
The haunted house has many scares to offer, featuring dark corners and this year a young girl screaming about her dolls. Her doll was being burned in a scene straight out of Toy Story 3.
Smith went during mid-October with a group of friends, and knew a lot of the scare actors working in the haunted house and maze.
The tractor ride to the maze is a thrilling experience, featuring a man with a chainsaw waving it around and sticking it in between people.
Once you’ve arrived, you are given directions of what and what not to do, and then sent off on your way through the haunted maze. You are also told if you get too scared, then just yell “Beacon” three times and they’ll come and rescue you.
As you navigate through the maze, there are many places where the actors are hiding, waiting for the right moment to strike an unsuspecting group of people.
Personally, I think whoever is on the stilts is the most terrifying thing ever. How do you even run through a corn maze wearing those?
After you find your way through the maze and have been loaded onto the tractor once more, you are taken back across the road.
You can grab a quick meal from the snack bar set up next to the haunted house.
“I had buffalo chicken dip and it was amazing,” said Smith, “I’m a sucker for buffalo chicken dip.”
