Netflix is well known for their retelling and dramatizations of real life events. However, that doesn’t mean they always do them justice.
As we all know Netflix loves to make shows out of events that have changed the trajectory of people’s lives, for the better or the worse.
They have released a series called ‘Monsters’ where they take a heavy topic and turn it into some sort of drama show. The first of this series was the infamous ‘Dahmer’ story starring Evan Peters.
Now let’s remember that there is already a movie out there about Jeffery Dahmer and what his life was. These movies are not the ones with real people from his life nor people that were affected by this.
These movies are made by money hungry directors who want to make a hit story out of a tragedy. Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan could be classified as those money hungry directors.
After the infamous ‘Dahmer’ show, Murphy and Brennan decided to take on a new case, the story of the Menendez Brothers and their life.
Though many see the show as a great story and entertaining, they forget that this is someone’s life and their experiences.
I would like to say in no way am I blaming the actors for this show and their depiction of these characters. Both Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez are very talented actors who did not get enough recognition before this show. It is not their fault the directors ruined the story they had to tell.
It’s been seen in many news reports that Cooper Koch (Erik Menendez) had contact with the actual Erik before and after his role.
Koch has given the news nothing but respectful things about the brothers, continuing to support them and show immense care for them.
“I believe him, I think he’s an amazing human being. And so, after playing him, getting to meet him was so rewarding and special and one of the most amazing experiences I think I’ll ever have in my life.” Koch told many news reporters.
Even though there is immense support, the brothers still do not condone how Murphy put a harsh light on their story.
“How demoralizing to know that one man with power can undermine decades of progress in shedding light on childhood trauma” said Erik Menendez
Koch was not the only person to have shown outpouring support to the brothers.
Kim Kardashian had visited the brothers and alongside her was her sister Khloe, her mother Kris, and Koch himself.
It was reported that she was there to talk to inmates about her work in criminal justice and to see about reforming court yards
Kardashian was also there to advocate for the Green Space Project, so that the rates of people being released do not once again turn back into old ways.
It gets even worse with the way the show depicts the brothers and their relationships. Instead of making them seem like two young brothers who are going through one of the most horrific things a person can go through, they try to show them in a light that desipcs them in some sort of romantic relationship.
In all, the show does not bring any good light or peace to the brothers, who have to live with their actions everyday. Turning their life into some sort of drama, suspense show is dehumanizing and disgusting.
The money hungry and selfish person Director Murphy is, he actually said, “The Menendez brothers should be sending me flowers.”
Crazy..
Imagine wanting to make money off of someone’s misfortune.
