Verdict: Decently fire.
This is not the first or the second, but the THIRD movie that I have watched in the span of a week that has the “average girl falls for the prince” trope in it and I can officially say that I have had my fill. I have scratched that itch. However, I must say that this one was the best, which makes sense considering that it was the only one that was not made by Netflix…
I watched The Princess Switch and A Christmas Prince for my Netflix Christmas movie rating article and amidst my search, saw this one. I can safely, and with much sincerity, promise you that if you watch the three of these movies, The Prince & Me is the best all around. I am not ensuring that you will enjoy it the most (I did), but I think that there is a clear difference in budget, casting, acting, script, costumes, and overall cringe factor of a Netflix movie versus one that was not created by Netflix.
That being said, the casting in this movie was perfect. I thought that Julia Stiles, who plays Paige Morgan, was so well fit for this role and I stand by the fact that she is a prime 2000s rom-com actress. Shameless 10 Things I Hate About You plug btw. That is a classic that you have to watch at least once in your life. Imagine this: Heath Ledger belting “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” as he runs down the bleachers towards a soccer-playing Julia Stiles, say LESS. Anyway, before I get totally side-tracked, we have to return to my latest watch. Not only was Paige cast flawlessly, but the crew had impeccable taste all around. I am at a loss for words to describe how enamored I was with Eddie, and I give complete credit to his actor, Luke Mably. I have never heard of this man before and I am devastated to find out that he was 28 in 2004 when this movie was made. I was not born until 2008. Devastated to find out that I missed my chance by four years. I am simply saying that I don’t disagree with Paige’s brother when he said that a good-looking face and accent are a lethal combo. Just saying.
There is not much to say about this movie other than it is my exact type: quick, funny, and cute. I loved the characters and how their personalities clashed. I loved Paige’s outfits. I loved the laundry scene. I genuinely enjoyed myself and was reluctant to stop watching every time I had to pause for class or practice. I 100% recommend this and hope that you will listen to me and watch it before it leaves Netflix on December 31st. Then you will probably have to scour the internet for an illegal website to watch it on that will 100% track you and sell all of your data to foreign countries. So go. And watch it. On Netflix.
Until next time!
