What’s better than getting hit with one dodgeball in the face? Getting hit by two dodgeballs in the face! This year, the tournament will be like getting hit in the face with two dodgeballs, exciting teams, and plays!!
In the wise words of Senior Kevin Justi, “Just throw, catch, and dodge.”
Since the year 2020, the dodgeball tournament has been a staple for Knoch. Each year multiple teams sign up to take part in this riveting and nail biting tournament, sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Some people love getting creative with their teams. Outfit coordination and clever team names are a must. We’ve seen things from the “Kenoughs”, “Santa’s Toy Sack”, “Kamer’s Kids”, and “Bolsas de Té” as well as costumes ranging from simple matching outfits, to eye black, to hick looks and jorts.
Some people are just here for the fun of a friendly game of dodge. And still some are there simply because they have been forced by their “friends”. These teams are sure to keep us on our toes at all times with a competitive game.
Each year, the junior class cabinet, with the help of their advisor, is the team responsible for organizing and running the entire show. They are in charge of reserving the gym, running sign ups, collecting money, creating the bracket, and so much more.
Former class of 2025 president Kelsey Miller was in charge of the previous tournament. According to Miller, the process could be described in three words. “Recruit, assign, and guide.”
She went on to say, “As the president it was my job to recruit people to help organize the tournament. I also was in charge of assigning people roles that would make everyone happy. During the tournament I filled in where needed and assisted as required.”
If you’re a freshman or just someone who has never done the tournament before, definitely consider giving it your best shot this year.
Freshman Adelynn Thompson is doing the dodgeball tournament for her first time. She is excited to play however she has some nerves.
When asked if she would be intimidated to play her response was, “Yes, because they’re older than me so they’re scarier.”
Be honest, we have all had these same thoughts.
So, what is it about this tournament that keeps kids coming back every year?
Is it for a good time? Is it to get out of class? As someone who has taken part in the tournament every year, senior Kevin Justi believes, “it also has been played every year whereas other sports sometimes get slapped in years.”
So what are you waiting for? Sign up and play some dodgeball!!
