Lieutenant Walker Prepares to Take Over the World

Incredibly smart, sarcastic, and sweet senior Heather Walker is one of my favorite people in the entire world. What makes me love her even more is her plans for her future. Have you heard about them?

“I plan on pursuing a career as a United States Army Field Vet,” said Walker.

After running hundreds of miles with her, and petting every single dog that comes in our path during Cross Country invitationals, it’s no surprise that Walker wants to tackle a career that deals with animals and great physical activity.

Maya Wirtz, one of Walker’s best friends, also plans on going into the armed forces. She shares her opinions on Walker joining the Army.

“I think it’s awesome that Heather and I both want to go into the military. It’s nice to have someone to talk about it with. I am also so proud that she is taking the initiative to enter the military.

To follow up with Wirtz’s answer, Walker explained what she thought of Wirtz going into the military as well.

“I couldn’t be happier for her; I’ve never seen anyone light up as much as she does when she talks about going to the Naval Academy. It’s very cool to see, and I love that I have a friend who shares some of the same goals as me.”

Along with Wirtz, Walker’s family was thrilled to learn about her plans for the future. Walker’s dad and brother told me about how happy they are to watch her grow.

“The greatest accomplishment I’ve seen my daughter do is watching her find herself. She works hard at school, excels at Cross Country and I always enjoy watching her become the great woman she is. This year feels like the moment when she first learned to ride a bike. I now realize I can stop running so hard and can have my hand off the back of her bike seat. She’s got this, but I’m always here as needed,” said Mr. Walker.

Mr. Walker also added his feelings about his daughter’s future plans.

“I’m thrilled to watch her succeed in a field she is passionate about. I cannot wait to hear about all the selected goals she targets and knocks down. I’m excited for her to build the life both she and God are proud of.”

Walker’s reaction to her father’s comments are absolutely heart-warming.

“My dad has a huge heart, and he’s always sacrificing for us kids. It’s amazing to see how willing he is to devote his time and energy to helping us succeed in everything we do.”

Not only did Walker’s father have great comments towards her daughter, so did her brother, Adam Walker, as well.

“I’m very upset that Heather will be heading off to college soon. We won’t have as much time to talk like we normally do. Plus, I’ll be worried because I know she stresses out a lot about school.”

It’s always nice to hear about sibling love. Especially when both siblings agree about the same topic.

“I will miss my brother 100%; that kid is one of my best friends (but don’t tell him that). He’s been a constant in my life, and is always there to help me celebrate my biggest achievements,” Walker said.

To end the interview, Walked elaborated on what she is most excited about for her future.

“I’m really excited for the adventure of it all. I have a plan, but a lot of things could change and the career I’ve chosen could land me anywhere in the world, doing a lot of different things. I have no idea where I’ll end up and that’s amazing to me.”

Seeing the joy that these plans bring to Walker’s heart allows me to not worry about her future and know that she will be safe wherever God takes her.

“Life is too short to only dream of adventures; you have to make them happen, and the best way to do that is to try new things and go to new places,” said Walker.
