Main Man Miller

Ever wonder what the teachers here at Knoch are like outside of school? What their coworkers and students think of them? Well, here’s a little bit about Mr. Miller, teacher and tennis coach.

Mr. Miller teaches many classes, including 10th, and 12th grade English, Writing for Social Media (which was just added last year), in addition to coaching both girls’ and boys’ tennis.

One of the teachers Mr. Miller is closest with, fellow English teacher Mrs. Lentz, expressed how she feels about having Mr. Miller as a coworker.

“I enjoy working with Mr. Miller. We talk often and I complain to him a lot,” said Lentz “Although, he annoyed me when he didn’t tell me there was an NHS meeting 5th period and it messed up my class.”

Students on the girls and boys tennis teams enjoy having Mr. Miller as their coach.

“He’s a really fun guy and makes practices fun. He’s very positive and even if you make a mistake, he’ll build you back up and show you the correct way instead of cracking down on it,” said senior Emily Ciganik. Although, Miller is known for his temper.

“He gets really quiet and passive and gives short answers, but generally he’s an easy-going guy.”

Senior Jake Goldinger agrees, but has a slightly different take on how Mr. Miller gets when he’s angry.

“He goes a little ballistic,” said Goldinger

“I get angry when I feel taken advantage of,” stated Mr. Miller. “But I try to remember that it is high school tennis, not life or death. In the long run all you’re going to be left with are your memories.”

Speaking of memories, Goldinger shared his favorite memory he had with Mr. Miller.

“We stopped at Burger King when the team was traveling just because I wanted to get the 10 nuggets for $1.29.”

But Mr. Miller isn’t just passionate about tennis. He also loves music.

“I like just about everything,” he said. “But my favorites have to be hip-hop, grunge, and

electro-pop.”

Everyone has that one song that gets them hyped, so I had to ask what his was.

“You Could Be Mine by Guns and Roses,” he laughed. “Axl Rose is a wild man.”

Mr. Miller also has been to many concerts, including Tom Petty, which he said was his favorite.

“Petty was just so genuine with his music and he looked like he was really enjoying himself.”

And, lastly, just one request from Mr. Miller: “Listen to Mos Def.”
