Music to Drown Out the Bad News

May 17, 2020

Music: A five letter word that gives me just the right amount of serotonin to keep me alive.

Listen, I’m not trying to sound like a prepubescent, smelly K-pop fan you’d find lurking in the back of Hot Topic in 2020. (You know, after they decided to get rid of all the good bands’ merchandise and replace it with a bunch of boy bands who are signed to a contract for the next 10 years and are controlled like robots.)

But anyway, music is a HUGE part of my life.

During these times of boredom and self hatred, I have had nothing to turn to except music. I constantly have one of my various Spotify playlists on shuffle. When I get tired of those, I dive deep for a quarantine play

list made by others. Here are just a few of the best ones I have found:

  • “Yer Not Punk Ya Punk!” that include songs by Black Flag and Dead Kennedys.
  • “Quarantine vibes🤧😷” which is just straight indie and Harry styles.
  • “Edgy teen party” with more Dead Kennedys on it, and this playlist makes me miss Claire.

But sometimes I just get tired of listening to stuff I’ve already heard. There are a lot of bands releasing singles during this time. Not only are they making profit, but they are able to give people something to look forward to and something new to hear. These are my favorite newly released songs within this past month. I highly suggest you check some of these artists out:

  • Stand Atlantic “Drink to drown”. Stand Atlantic is releasing a new song at the beginning of every month until all this is over.
  • Destroy boys  “Honey I’m home “
  • 5 Seconds of Summer “Wildflower “ Along with the brand new album CALM.
  • Frank ocean “Cayendo”
  • The1975 “Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America “ and “If you’re too shy (let me know)”

I am more than ready for the world to reopen and concerts that have been cancelled to be rescheduled. But in the meantime, find yourself a good playlist and just vibe.

Hi, I'm Faith. I'm a Sophomore. and I like to go to concerts but nobody is ever willing wants to go with me because they don't like punk music. Moshing is better by yourself anyways. You're just jealous that you don't collect cool guitar picks from shows. And, this is a picture of me with my favorite band (Stand Atlantic).  I met them like 1000x before this cuz I’m cool and you’re not.
