Cold Case #1, "Carbon County Beth Doe"

“Beth Doe,” an unidentified pregnant woman whose body was found in Carbon County about 44 years ago. On December 20th 1976 a 14 year old boy found a human head under a bridge on interstate 80.  A little while later, the rest of her dismembered body was found in three suitcases. The killer was suspected to have thrown the suitcases off the bridge on leigh river in white haven Pennsylvania along I-80 by a vehicle traveling west. Two of the suitcases were found in the woods a couple feet from the river and the other one, which had her head at the fetus of her unborn child, was found on the river bank.

According to the blog about Beth on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s website, “Authorities say she was sexually assaulted, strangled and shot in the neck after she died. She was pregnant, full-term, with a

little girl. The fetus was cut from her body and her nose, ears, and more were removed.” The official cause of death was strangulation.

It was believed that “Beth” was a runaway foster child but that is about all they know about the woman because no one claimed her body or gave information about the case. The Pennsylvania state police stated that she was a white teen that was 15-25 years old when she died, about 4 foot 11 to 5 foot 4 tall and weighed 140 to 150 pounds du

e to the pregnancy. She lived in the U.S 5-10 years but most likely resented at Tennessee or a nearby southern state.

“Someone out there knows who she is,” says Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Brian Noll for an interview for NCMEC,  “And there is always hope that someone will come forward with information.”
