Christmas Music Tier List

It’s that time of year again. Lights are hanging on houses, Christmas trees are going up, and holiday music is playing in every store you enter. Suddenly, Pentatonix Christmas albums are everywhere you turn. Year after year, it’s always the same songs you hear on repeat, so I made a tier list of some of the most popular ones.

Starting off in the “Bad” tier….

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas: The Michael Bublé version isn’t that bad, but the Burl Ives version is just not that great, and it reminds me of the bad stop-motion Christmas movies.

Little Drummer Boy(original): It’s just awful; it’s so slow and so boring.

Twelve Days of Christmas: I know it’s kind of the point of the song, but it’s too repetitive and gets boring after five golden rings.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: This song is fun as a kid, but I find it very annoying now.

White Christmas: It’s too slow and I get bored.

Moving onto the “Not great but I’ll listen” tier…

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas: I used to love this song when I was little, but the more I hear it, the more I start to not like it.

All I Want for Christmas is You: It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s sooo overplayed. I’m glad Mariah’s still getting that bag though.

Mele Kalikimaka: I’m kind of indifferent to this song. It’s not terrible, but it definitely isn’t my first choice of Christmas songs to play.

Next is the “Good” tier.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home): It’s kinda catchy, but it’s just good.

Snowman: I like that this song doesn’t sound like a traditional Christmas song. If I hear it once, it’s stuck in my head for days.

White Winter Hymnal (Pentatonix): This song used to get stuck in my head for hours at a time in like eighth grade, but I would have to listen to it on Soundcloud because I didn’t have Apple Music or Spotify.

Jingle Bell Rock: This one is truly a classic.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree: This song gives off the same vibe as Jingle Bell Rock.

The “Great” tier is for songs that are better than good but they’re not the absolute best.

The Twelve Pains of Christmas: Not many people know about this song, but it’s pretty funny. My dad loves to play it all the time.

Last Christmas (Taylor Swift): This is the best version of this song. I will not be elaborating any further.

Jingle Bells (Michael Bublé): The original song is just bad, but Michael spiced it up and added a cool feature to the song.

Santa Tell Me: I feel like there haven’t been very many newer Christmas songs that stay around for long, but this one has with the younger generations.

Underneath the Tree: This is another newer song that’s been around for a while. It’s honestly so catchy and such a fun song to listen to.

Mistletoe: My 8-year-old self would constantly sing this song; It was my absolute favorite.

Okay, this next tier is for the best of the best.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town (Bruce Springsteen): Usually this song can be pretty boring, but this version is so fun and so upbeat.

Oh Santa (Mariah Carey): This song is so underrated, and I think more people need to know about it and listen. Little Drummer Boy (Justin Bieber): Okay so I forgot to add this to the tier list, but it belongs in the Amazing tier. I hate the original version of this song but JB likes to switch things up. Two years ago, I learned all the rap parts and knew every word to this song, and it was my biggest flex.

Mr. Heatmiser (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy): I don’t like the movie that the Heatmiser and Snowmiser are in because I hate that kind of animation, but this song is so good and so underrated.
