what’s this class like?

PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE PLTW

Lexi Sedlak

Senior Shaelynn Gallagher

I took Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS) my junior year, and I had Mrs. Venesky 6th period; I got A’s each term in that class.  I had heard some stories from a couple past PBS takers, so when I signed up for it in the Spring, I had a general idea of what it would be like, and everyone that I talked to said that they loved the class. And like always, I had one main goal to get an A every term.  Here’s my take on PBS:

Studying

I studied about 1 day a week—I thought this class was fairly easy because everything was very hands-on. I am a visual learner, so the hands-on aspect made it super easy to follow along and get a good understanding of what we were working on. So, we had a daily 42 minute class, and about once a week I would go home and study for about 10-20 minutes for an occasional quiz or test.

My Grades

The first term, I got a 96%.  The second term, I got a 100%.  The third term, I got a 99%.  The fourth term, I got a 98%.  And my final grade in that class was a 98%.

Homework

I had homework maybe once every week or two.  Our assignments in class were to take notes or do activities from the PLTW website so we could go over it the next day, and our homework would be to finish whatever we didn’t finish in class.  If you manage your class time well, you won’t have much homework.

Tests/Quizzes

There were not very many tests/quizzes. It’s not an AP class though so it was exactly what I had expected.  The tests and quizzes almost always had a corresponding quizlet, so it was always easy to prepare for them.  In class, we also reviewed using Quizlets and Kahoots the day before the quiz/test.  We weren’t quizzed/tested on everything that we learned, either.

General Info

This class was fairly easy, but your grade will plummet quickly if you don’t do your work.  The rate that we went through material was very reasonable, and in the long run though, I am so glad I took this class.  If you are wanting to go into the medical field, TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! 🙂
