What’s It Like To Be Geist?

The Man Behind The Legend

Jordan Geist: a name almost every student has come to know over the past few years. If you’re one of the few people who hasn’t heard of him: what rock do you live under and may I move in until this whole “politics” thing blows over? For the rest of us, Jordan Geist has become a household name at KHS. We all know he throws things really far, he breaks all of the records, and he’s RIPPED, but many people still don’t know who he actually is.

“I’ve known Jordan since we were wee lads” said senior Josh “Buck” Campbell, “and let me tell you: he may look intimidating, but he’s basically just a large teddy bear.”

You see many people see Jordan and they assume he’s some jock who struts about like he’s the best thing since sliced bread. In reality, there’s so much more to him than that.

“I don’t even think there’s much fame in High School track,” said Geist himself.

While this may be true (I mean come on, name one high school track star who isn’t Jordan. Go ahead, I’ll wait…), you’d expect much more cockiness from someone who is widely regarded as “the best shotputter this side of the Mississippi.” Ok… so maybe I made that up, but I mean come on, the kid has so many records I thought about buying him another trophy case for Christmas. You’d expect him to be at least a little cocky, right?

“Actually, Jordan handles his fame with great aplomb,” said “Buck” Campbell. “Fame, like a gorgeous woman, can be fickle and beguiling. Jordan remains steadfast in his placid ways through both adversity and success” (for those of you as confused by that quote as I was, check the bottom for a translation).

No matter how much you pump him up, Jordan will always be humble and kind. That is, unless you insult his girl. No no, I don’t mean his longtime girlfriend (Mackenzie Matlack), or his mother, or long lost sister… I’m talking of course about Taylor Swift.

“Yeah, there’s not much more to me. I’m a huge T Swift fan and I throw balls far,” said Geist.

While Jordan may be adamant in the fact that he is a “boring, uninteresting dude,” many of us have wacky times with him on the reg. I can’t even count the weird memories I’ve had with Jordan over the years, and I’m super confident in my ability to at least count to ten. These memories aren’t only mine, as Jordan has touched so many people with his weird but fun ways.

“I have countless memories with Geist. I can remember our intense games of dodgeball, and our trips to States where we would people watch and laugh at all the dweebs,” said Buck.

Along with these awesome shared memories, Jordan has himself experienced some great times.

“States are always pretty fun, along with Nationals. Breaking a world record is definitely a highlight…” said Geist “but I’d have to say my favorite memory is my first duet of ‘Endless Love’ with Josh Freehling.”

“It was magical… Our two hearts joined together as one,” said senior Josh Freehling, “and I realized we truly do have an endless love.”

All in all it has become incredibly apparent that Jordan Geist is more than just the rumors you’ve heard about him. Yes, he’s the best shot put thrower in the history of Pennsylvania and quite possibly the entire country, yes, he’s dedicated and hardworking and he never takes a day off, but he’s also a great friend. You won’t ever find anyone else like him, so it’s only natural that we’d all wonder what it’s like to be Geist.

Buck’s Wild Quote Translation:

“Actually, Jordan handles his fame pretty well and he kinda just goes with the flow,” said “Buck” Campbell. “Fame ain’t gonna be around forever, Jordan knows that so he keeps it 100 all the time, whether he’s running the game or the game’s running him.”
