As we all know, the construction at Knoch high school has had a ton of changes in plans and rumors of what will happen, but this one is sure to stay! Most students’ biggest concern about the changes at the school is the parking lot’s new location. Behind the school? Where it is now, but redone? Nothing done at all? (likely) 

You’ll be surprised to hear that none of these are true! The new student parking lot is taking on new heights, as it will be located on the gym roof! 

A car elevator like the ones you see in those Carvana ads on tv will be installed on the side of the building to allow easy access to the lot. From there, it’s essentially the same as our current lots’ setup, but better.

 Its aerodynamic location will prevent it from forming potholes and puddles. With bigger spots for more space and less door dings and a new extra-durable paint that will number each spot, this location is something of the future.

 Not only does it look better, but it’s also guaranteed to be enough spots for all the randomly old sophomores that have their licenses but can’t drive to school because there isn’t room in the current lot. 

Sophomore Delaney Andrews got her license in January, but hasn’t been able to utilize it as much as she expected. 

“I’m glad the school is doing something about this issue; there’s so many students on the waiting list for a spot, but they just don’t have any more to give,” said Andrews.

But its new, polished look and feel isn’t the only plus to this relocation. Since the lot is directly above the school, there’s no need to walk across the street to get to the building anymore. Every row of spots is equipped with its own elevator that leads directly to the metal detectors for optimum student convenience. 

“I was tired of the long walk across the street,” said junior Danielle Golden. “I’m excited to spend less time outside when there’s bad weather.”

While this all sounds great, you might have some concerns. Is there really enough room on the roof for everyone? What if someone drives off the building? Won’t the elevators be slow for cars and students? But never fret, we have answers to all of these questions.

Yes, of course there’s enough room on the roof! Think about how big our gym is. After tons of measurements made by the construction team, they determined that there’s more than enough room for over 300 spots. 

Falling off the side of the building? Not around here. There will be half-walls put up around the perimeter of the lot, like the ones at the top level of parking garages. 

What about the elevators? This was a big concern for our school and construction workers, but because we don’t have room for a ramp, the elevator was the only option, but don’t worry. New high-speed technology guarantees that these elevators will be lightning quick; some say even faster than our current situation.
