Spring Fever

How to Stay on Track When the Weather Breaks

March 21, 2017

The tides are turning, the weather is changing. This February gave everyone a taste of spring. Motivation seems harder than ever to find.

All of a sudden, students are delighting in sunshine, warm breezes, and bare legs. Even if the temperature’s only a high of 48°, you see people disregarding the dress code like it’s their job.

The scheduling for next year is taking place, the college commitments are well under way, and the 2016-2017 school year is coming to end before we know it.

With all of this, I think it’s safe to say, Spring Fever is in full swing.

Spring Fever is a real disease, and I too have fallen a victim of it. It affects a lot of students’ work ethics, so here’s a list of stuff to keep you on the right track through the warming weather:

Grab a calendar… write it all down

Make your assignment book your best friend and avoid double booking your weekends. With that in mind, also be cautious and limit what you’re involved in. Having too many activities can make you even more stressed. Write down all of your happenings for the month. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can even color code them. Social outings in blue, school projects in pink. Even without an assignment book, find a printable calendar online and hang it up in a frame. Dry erase markers work great on the glass. Happy DIY-ing 🙂

Discipline must become your middle name

If you have a goal in mind for spring, always keep a plan as to how to obtain it. No matter if it’s studying or getting in shape, always keep it in the back of your mind. If your summer bod is the goal, no more snacking. If you want to keep motivated studies, give yourself a purpose to keep on track.

Make sleep a priority

With days getting longer, it’s always hard to make sure sleep is prioritized. If drowsiness interferes with your daily festivities, more sleep each night will improve the quality of your daytime productivity and overall well-being.

Put away your phone

The best way to avoid being distracted by Twitter/Snapchat/Insta/VSCO etc. is by making your schedule filled with things that require you to ignore your phone. Think… movies, the gym, manicures, reading, movie marathons. You’d be surprised how much anxiety is relieved when social media isn’t in the picture.

Keep your eyes on the prize

To all of the seniors, the goal at this point is getting a diploma. I know you’re probably already accepted somewhere, but don’t let that be an excuse to slack off. You’re in high school to graduate. Remember that the hard work will pay off, and if you put in a 100% effort to do well, that’s all you can ask for.

“I usually hand a sock full of quarters to the person behind me. If I drift off track they flail it at the back of my head and the subsequent loss of vision snaps me back into focus.

— Max Freyermuth

“Spring reminds me of rain. It keeps me on track because when it rains, metaphorically and literally, I can put my metaphorical and literal hood up to shield me from distractions.

— Sumer Jasmine

Hello all of you losers. For those of you who don't know who I am, my name's Sam. I best describe myself as terribly cynical and slightly rude, it's how I do. I'm a part-time intellectual, and a full-time pessimist. I am really good at complaining and making people angry. My hobbies include sleeping, eating, and avoiding human interaction at all costs.
