Involvements in the Arts – “My whole life I have been doing some kind of instrument. I started playing instruments when I was 4 years old, so about 12 years now. I started music because it was a big part of me even at such a young age. Throughout my life I went from guitar to violin and many other instruments, after so long I finally started on the clarinet which is now my main instrument that I’ve been playing for almost 7 years now. I now try to involve myself in anything musical as it mostly brings me joy.”
Greatest Musical Achievement – “I really haven’t done anything specials since I’ve always been scared that I wasn’t good enough. This year I auditioned for Honors Band and I did get in which I was in no means expecting. It’s difficult to get into and the piece they chose was difficult. But I get to meet and see many different people from different schools! I feel this will be a great experience for me.”
Musical/ Performing goals – “Right now as a sophomore I plan to go to college for music performance. I plan to audition and apply to many schools but as of right now I am trying to get into Auburn University in Alabama.”
Artist/ Role Model – “I’ve never personally had a role model. Thinking of trying to find somebody to say that is my role model felt pointless because I truly can’t think of anyone. I’ve always strived to be better than what I have been doing. I’ll never be perfect but I can always try to be close. So, I believe that in some way I am my own role model.”
My favorite Song – “My favorite song at the moment is Fable by Gigi Perez. She always adds importance and meaning to what she is singing about. And the tones she uses to create the song are nicely written. She also adds a beautiful melody to the song that most songs don’t have. ”
What sparked my Interest -“I’ve always been interested in music. My dad always wanted me to play the guitar so he bought me one. After that, guitar didn’t really seem like me but I enjoyed trying to play. What really started to spark my interest was picking and playing my clarinet. I just instantly wanted to play it all the time. I would always listen to songs over and over to try and learn them so now I’m able to play now just by listening to notes or songs by ear. And I’m especially thankful for my band teacher Mr. Hayden for pushing me to be better and work harder.”
Future Plans – “Right now I’m more focused on the little future ahead than the bigger future I’m excited for the Honors Band in December where I can play difficult music and meet new people. I’m also excited for when our musical will start up in the spring where I can be in the pit and play difficult music with people I enjoy playing with.”
Upcoming performances – “I have the Jazz and concert band concert being held on December 5th and I also have an Honors Band concert being held on December 14 at Grove City College.”
Something to leave with – Don’t give up or feel discouraged if you’re not as great as others. You are as good as you are but you will always learn and be better than the day before. When you do feel discouraged don’t give up just yet.
