what’s this class like?
AP CHEMISTRY
I took AP Chemistry my junior year and I had Mrs. Zhang 7/8 period. I just barely got all As in that class… every term, I was right on the edge of getting a B. I have heard manyyyyy stories from past AP Chem takers, so when I signed up for AP, I knew it was going to be a challenge. I had one main goal though… to get an A every term. And I was willing to do just about anything to get those A’s. Here’s my take on AP Chem:
Studying
Out of my entire high-school career, I’ve had to study the most for this class. I studied about 5-6 days a week, but if it’s a holiday break or something, I cut myself a break. However, if it is a normal school week, there would be 5-6 days that I study chem on my own time. So, on top of a 42 minute class every day and an extra 42 minute lab every other day, I would go home and study anywhere from 10 minutes-4 hours. It was a lot…
My Grades
I did get all As, but I was right on the edge of a B. The first term, i got a 90%. The second term, I got a 91%. The third term, I got a 90%. The fourth term, I got a 90%. And my final grade in that class was a 90%.
Homework
There was homework every single day, but if you do it, it’s very helpful. Mrs. Z did not check the homework every day, but make sure you do it. You will need every point you can get.
Tests/Quizzes
There was a quiz pretty much every week. And a chapter test maybe every other week. The quizzes were not too hard, but the tests could be pretty bad. I’ve gotten 100s on tests, but I’ve also gotten grades that were in the 60s.
General Info
This was the hardest class I have ever taken and there was new information every day, so it was a lot to keep up with. The rate that we went through material was crazy and it’s easy to get lost. In the long run though, I am glad I took this class. I learned so much more than chemistry–it gave me mini life lessons. If you decide to take this class… I wish you the best of luck 🙂
