what’s this class like?
AP ENGLISH 11
I took AP English my junior year and I had Ms. Lampus 4th period; I got A’s each term in that class. I had heard some stories from past AP English takers, so when I signed up for the AP course, I had a general idea of what it would be like, most said it wasn’t too bad. And like always, I had one main goal to get an A every term. Here’s my take on AP English 11:
Studying
I studied about 2 days a week, I personally found it pretty easy. So, we had a daily 42 minute class, and I would go home and study for about 10-30 minutes
My Grades
The first term, I got a 93%. The second term, I got a 96%. The third term, I got a 93%. The fourth term, I got a 93%. And my final grade in that class was a 94%.
Homework
There was homework maybe every other day, mostly reading. We were assigned to read short stories from the textbook at home so that we could have open discussions about them the next day. We also read AR books, which was mostly done on our own time, but we occasionally got time in class to read them. I reviewed my grades while writing this and I never missed a homework point, I got 100% on every single assignment—so, they weren’t hard assignments, you just have to do them. We also got class participation points.
Tests/Quizzes/Writing
There were not too many tests/quizzes, but there was a decent amount of writing (rhetorical analysis essays, timed writings, Into the Wild essay, synthesis essays, The Crucible essay, argumentative essay, Madeline Albright essay, and maybe one or two more that I forgot to mention). It’s an AP English class though so it was pretty much what I had expected. The tests and quizzes were on vocabulary and stories that we focus on in class. We weren’t quizzed/tested on every story that we had to read.
General Info
This class wasn’t too difficult, but it can be difficult to keep up with if you don’t read the short stories. The rate that we went through material wasn’t too crazy, but it can be easy to get lost. In the long run though, I am glad I took this class. If you decide to take this class… I wish you the best of luck 🙂
