ly Toledo! The Knights have been giving belt to competition like Michael Irvin. They have won eleven straight, six wins in section play. Wow. These Knights are locked in. But, today let’s talk about their most impressive win by far, a nine point victory over the North Catholic Trojans at North Catholic.
These Knights battled and battled with the Trojans for a hard fought victory. The Knights were only up at half by two, 33-31. They pulled away in the third quarter, going up by 53-47 at the end of the third.
The Knights were led in scoring by 1000 point scorer Teegan Finucan, who put up 25.
“It’s definitely a confidence boost,” Finucan said, “But we all know what the plan was going in.”
A huge help to the explosion in scoring was the combined 20 boards from Derek Lang and Liam Avon.
“Everyone has their own roles and strengths on the court, and rebounding is one of mine,” Avon said, “It feels good to help out the team by doing my role, and if everyone does their role then we win games.”
The Knights were also aided by the student section attendance. The battle on the floor came first, but the battle of the student sections was elite.
“Oh yeah, we were definitely in their heads,” student section leader Koen Sundie said. “We helped, but the main reason we won is because our team is a bunch of dogs, they put in a ton of practice and effort.”
The next match against the Trojans comes at the Castle on February 3rd.
When asked how the gameplan changes at home, junior guard Roman Defelice said, “We know they are going to come in with their season on the line. We just have to stay composed and continue to do the things we do well.”
More recently, the Knights also defeated the Freeport Yellowjackets on 1-13. They achieved a running clock victory, by a final score of 56-28.
The Knights were slow from the start in this one though, being down three entering the second quarter, with a lackluster 7 points.
“Shots just weren’t falling,” Finucan said. “Those shots go in every other night. It’s just a part of the game.”
The Knights picked up the pace in the second though. They went up 31-15 going into the half, with a 24 point offensive explosion.
Vinnie Defelice led the Knights in scoring, he put up 16. He is followed by Finucan with 15.
But you also can’t ignore the rest of the Knights schedule. They still have a remaining matchup with the Deer Lakes Lancers to end their section schedule. To make things worse, that matchup will take place at Russellton, in one of the smallest, yet loudest gyms in the WPIAL. This will definitely be a challenge for the Knights, but they are ready.
“We are keeping our composure a lot better this year,” Senior Vinnie Defelice said. “We
aren’t panicking when things go a little down hill.”
