Movies! I love movies! As Nicole Kidman says every time you sit down to enjoy a movie at your local AMC theater: “We come to this place for magic. We come to The AMC Theatres to laugh, to cry, to care. Because we need that—all of us.”
I mean, wow. I feel truly moved.
As we enter warmer months this tends to mean more free time. So, I’m here to tell you what movies are coming this spring and summer that you can get ready to fill your time with. If you want any further information you can check out the IMDB website

- The Devil Wears Prada 2: This movie follows a seasoned fashion icon Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of traditional fashion publishing. This forces her to rely on former assistant Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive. And on top of it all, Andy Sachs returns to this chaotic world to help face a major Runway magazine scandal. This movie is to be released May 1st in theaters and has a rating of PG-13. Personally, I’m so excited for this movie to come out. I grew up watching The Devil Wears Prada movie and it’s one of the many movies that made me love fashion. I’m excited to see how they take the story and how they make the story more modern as the first movie was made when being a size 4 was considered fat.
- Backrooms: Coming out May 29th, this new movie is a psychological sci-fi horror film. This film is based on a viral Youtuber series called “Limited Space”. This series follows a man who discovers a strange, monster-filled, yellow-wallpapered dimension in a furniture store basement, leading to an obsessive, reality-bending journey. The rating is not out yet as of writing this, however, it will be coming soon. Personally, out of all the movies on this list this is the one I’m most excited for. I never followed the series closely; however, understanding the basic premises is already exciting. This movie is also being made by the original creator of the series alongside A24 (a very popular and award winning company) The trailer for this movie is also one of my favorites so I really recommend you check in out here: Backrooms Trailer
- Toy Story 5: Taking a very big turn from the last movie, toy story five is the continued narrative of our beloved childhood toys buzz and woody. This movie will be released on June 19th and has a rating of G-PG. The plot of the fifth story is bonnie, the little girl who owns all the toys, becomes an ipad kid. I wish I was joking. According to IMDB, Bonnie becomes obsessed with her new ipad named Lily Pad, while 50 rogue Buzz Lightyear toys get stuck in toy mode. If I’m being honest, I have a few doubts about this movie. The Toy Story franchise has been active since 1995 and I personally think the lightyears movies were a great ending to the series. But again, what do I know? I’m just a teenage girl writing an article about movies.
- Girls like Girls: Like the title says, this is a coming of age story navigating coming out as queer. Being released on June 19th, Girls Like Girls is based off of a very famous music video created and directed by Hayey Kiyoko. This music video, released in 2015 and in 2023, was created into a book, which the movie is based off of. This movie centers around 17-year-old Coley, who moves to a rural town in Oregon. After her mother’s death she falls in love with a girl named Sonya. During this she navigated first love, trauma, and self-acceptance. (this movie is yet to be rated)
- Spider-man: Brand New Day: By far this is one of the most talked about movies right now. This movie is coming out July 13th and is rated PG-13. If you haven’t already seen the trailer, here is the link! The movie starts four years after No Way Home. The forgotten Peter Parker continues to be spider-man but now isolated and alone in the city of New York. He now is facing intense pressure, has a physical evolution, and faces a new powerful threat. I mean as someone who only watches the marvel universe for spiderman I’m very excited!
Safe to say there is a movie for everyone this summer. So grab a friend and some overpriced popcorn to watch a movie. You never know what you might learn while watching a scary movie or a movie about an Ipad kid.
