When being an athlete you are made to wear a uniform. Every athlete has to fit a mold when it comes to what to wear. However, every athlete, including me, takes time to do little things to their uniform to make it a little more them. I got a chance to talk to Olivia Hawk and here are some of her opinions of uniform personalization.
What sports do you play and for how many years have you played those sports?
I have played volleyball for four years, Basketball for eight years, and track for two.
How do you personalize your uniform?
Volleyball – I wear a hair tie on my ankle and roll my sleeves under my elbow pads twice.
Basketball – I roll my shorts twice and have bible verses written on my shoes.
Is there meaning behind your personalisation other than looking cool?
To make my clothes fit better.
Do you think it’s important to let athletes have some creative freedom with uniforms? Why or why not?
Yes, in moderation. If everybody looks the exact same, it would make uniforms even more boring than they already are.
Do you plan to do any other personalizations next season?
Maybe but I don’t have anything in mind.
