Plot:
Great Scott! Back To The Future, first loved as a movie, has been adapted for the stage. Set in 1985 in California, teenager Marty McFly and elderly scientist Doc Brown use a time-traveling DeLorean to go back in time to 1955, to a few days before Marty’s parents met. Through a series of misfortunes, it looks for a while like Marty is going to mess up the whole thing and erase his own existence. In the end, though, it all works out, with Marty saving his parents’ relationship through the magic of electric guitar. Upon going “back to the future”, Marty and Doc find that everything has worked out for the better, putting Marty’s family in a much better place than they were at the beginning. The show runs for about 2 hours and 40 minutes with one intermission.
My Opinion: I think it’s pretty good! The movie has never been my favorite, but the musical does a great job of adapting the story. The songs are mediocre, but not bad. The special effects, however, are outstanding! Definitely a good choice if you want to take family to a show!
Will Grandma Ever Look At You The Same?: Grandma will probably be fine. The show has light swearing and a few references to sexual activity, but nothing explicit. Any of the references would go right over a younger kid’s head.
