Ever wanted to cuddle up with a furry friend to de-stress from your school day? Well, now with the new zoo Knoch is planning to build, you can! Beside the middle school. The original plan was for a new parking lot. However, due to funds for the parking lot being relocated. The large plot of land was left untouched. Well, that is until now. An anonymous source granted the Knoch school district $1.5 million to make a zoo to help students connect with nature and de-stress.
Construction will start up right after this school year ends and should be finished before the next school year. Mr. Kamer, the art teacher, who is also a major animal lover will be running the Knoch zoo club starting up next year. This club will be feeding the animals, cleaning the exhibits, and is a great way to learn responsibility.
“I’m really excited to share my love of animals with the students. Imagine a pep-rally with live animal racing!” said Mr. Kamer.
If you are interested in joining the club next year feel free to contact Mr. Kamer.
But the real question is: What animals will be in the Knoch Zoo? As of now the petting zoo section has been picked out with goats, tea cup pigs, and bunnies. However this is not all! Pandas, lions, leopards, and even a saber tooth tiger will also be in the zoo. At this time, an aquarium section is being figured out due to space but dolphins and stingrays are on the agenda for wanted animals. When talking to Knoch students about animals they wanted to see I got a multitude of answers.
“I personally would love to rehome the mice that live in the high school building. I feel this zoo would be a good place to live,” said junior Jack Reckard.
“Can we get Elephants? I love elephants! I’ve always wanted to ride an elephant!” exclaimed sophomore Hailey Allison.
“Do you think we can go full Jurassic park and bring back the dinosaurs?” said sophomore Lexi Steel.
Once the summer of 2027 rolls around the plan is for the animals to go home with students. How is still unsure but, Mr. Kamer was thinking of a raffle or even a rock paper scissors competition. Just imagine getting to have a pet panda for the summer!
So, even though all of the logistics are still getting ironed out, one thing is for sure: KNOCH IS GETTING A ZOO!
