With summer right around the corner, there are many ice cream shops nearby to treat yourself on a sunny day. However, it’s not so simple as to just run to the nearest place and get a small chocolate cone with rainbow sprinkles (hint hint, nudge nudge); there is a science to this whole getting-ice-cream gist. Today, you’ll discover the truth about your local ice cream shops, and which is the most worth going to!
1. Corner Cones
I mean, come on. Who can really diss on Corner Cones? They have over 30 flavors of hard-scoop, food, drinks, and more! Hard scoop prices start at $2.90, which I see as extremely reasonable. Overall, the atmosphere is really nice. You can choose to sit on picnic benches under the shade or on benches in the sunlight. Corner Cones is also family-friendly, with a wooden train for younger kids to play on.
2. Kiki & Lolo’s
With a little help from sophomore Rylee Connor, I’m going to explain why Kiki and Lolo’s is my #2, although it’s her favorite.
“This place is my favorite compared to any other ice cream places. It’s amazing.”
According to Connor, Kiki & Lolo’s is the best because, “It’s such a cute area, super friendly and welcoming, amazing ice cream, so much variety and flavors, such good prices too,” and it has fun flavors like the, “Fruity Pebble Mixer-Up with fruity cereal swirl ice cream.”
In terms of convenience, Connor has won the points. “I go here like every other day!”
And, of course, environment is always important, “So friendly, cozy, it can be quick or you can hang out which is amazing, so so cute for dates and friend hangouts!”
Alright Rylee, that’s a pretty good argument. However, I just don’t think anything in this town can top Corner Cones for me…Kiki & Lolo’s also has outdoor seating, but it’s harder to get away from the noise of the road.
3. Dairy Queen
Shh don’t tell my boss I put DQ at third…
There’s a lot of great things about DQ! They come out with new flavors every month; this month’s being the Choco Frosted Donut blizzard, Fruity Pebbles shake, and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch dipped cone, along with returning summer items. But, of course, there’s a downside: Dairy Queen is a chain. I love the food and treats believe me, but small town businesses just have something special. One nice memory I have from childhood is throwing up in the DQ cake bag from my annual ice cream birthday cake during the summer when I got sick…good times (not sick from the cake btw!!!). All in all, I think third is a valid spot when compared to the others.
Honorable Mention: Kristy’s Whistle Stop
If some of you didn’t know this already, I was born in Harrisburg. I still live there part time, and the Whistle Stop has been my favorite place for ice cream my whole life. It sits on a busy road across the river from the Capitol, and everyone in town loves it. If you ever get the chance to visit Harrisburg in the summer months, head across the river and get yourself some ice cream!
