If you have a summer birthday, you know the facts. You’re either the oldest or the youngest in your grade, and everyone is on vacation when it’s your turn to celebrate. But, hey, there’s the rare occasion that all of your friends can make it to your party and you all have a blast. Thankfully, I’m blessed with that rare occasion this year.
Last year I had a lot of great friends at my birthday party, but my four closest friends were all away. This year, almost all of my invited friends can come! And, of course, I’ll only be 17…but I think graduating at 17 is cool.
Aside from all of this, the party must be fun no matter who out of your friends can come. Since I’m running out of high school birthday parties to throw, I thought I’d share some inspiration for those who need ideas!
Idea #1: Sunset Soiree
This seems to be a popular theme on the Pinterests. Color scheme includes: warm oranges, soft pinks, and accents of gold or yellow. Bright, warm-colored dresses are the go-to outfit, with natural or softly waved hairstyles. Menu includes: on-theme mocktails, fruits, salty snacks, and we can’t forget the pink & orange birthday cake! This event would be better outside, but could work for either indoors or outdoors.
Idea #2: Mermaid Core
You can find all of Ariel’s ‘thingamabobs at this party. Complete with seashells, glowing jellyfish, and starfish, the Mermaid Core party is a summer hit. Dress can be casual–like a shimmery tank & skirt, or formal with long blue/purple sparkly dresses. Keep chrome in your texture lineup, and be sure to serve some kind of seafood. Shell-shaped cookies would be perfect for this occasion.
Idea #3: Neon Night
I did something similar to this last year, but it was called a “Messy 16.” We loaded water guns with paint and played cup pong. But this is a completely neon-themed party. Neon colored outfits should be paired with glow-stick jewelry and special lighting. I would recommend doing this type of party indoors because the sun sets later in the summertime. You will have room to black-out the party location and put special lighting in to reveal the neon colors. Games and more music would be perfect for this type of event.
I personally am choosing to have a garden party this year! It’s a more calm theme after the intense one I did last year. I bought the perfect floral dress, and will be going thrifting for almost all of the decor! No matter what theme you choose, or if you even celebrate at all, keep your closest friends around–it makes things so much better!
